Headlines / 2FORT PARTY!
« Last post by ScooterYDKJ on April 19, 2018, 07:41:10 PM »

So, my birthday was earlier this week, so I decided to go with another party-style event akin to the Turbine Party we had, so I decided to go with one of the all-time classic maps: 2Fort! If things get boring or so, we could change the maps about halfway, but we'll lead off with the classic first.

So stop on in and join in on the fun with us!

I'm going to be honest, but this weekend, I just felt like we all could use a break from the crazy and just hang out for some good old-fashioned fun on Turbine.

War. War never really changes, I think.

This week's map is a 3-CP map based off of the Fallout series. Something simple, dust-covered, and (to the best of my knowledge) Deathclaw free!

Come join us for some desolate fun!

Since the Fortnite event didn't turn out the way I had hoped, the 3 Unleash the Beast keys have been held over for our prizes this week. But, the only way to get the raffle link is at the event, so be sure to attend if you want a shot at one of these fabulous items!

Yeah, I'm not terribly great at it anyway. But, it's worth a shot.

Also, I've updated the thread with the Matchmaker code we'll be using.

As far as the keys are concerned, if you attended, let me know either through Steam or through Epic (Username's ScooterYDKJ, as usual) and I'll get you the link.

Yep, we're doing this...

A while ago, when I was putting out feelers for event ideas, one game that kept creeping up was Fortnite: Battle Royale. For those who've never heard of it, it's basically PUBG with building, cartoony graphics, and it's free. So, after our recent Blackmesa event, I gave it a shot. It's not bad. At the very least it's a new event we can at least try out.

We may not be able to actually do this on a stand-alone server (to my knowledge) but we do have a way to at least force the matchmaker to pair us all together on the same map.

Over the next two weeks, we'll be working out the finer details for the actual event, but consider this your two-week warning. The game's a hefty download, so don't wait until event night to download it.

When it comes to the concept of memes, sometimes you just have to stand back and bear witness to it, for even then there is no rational explanation. And that's what we have with this week's map.

It's called "Steamed Hams," and it's apparently based upon a Simpsons episode. I don't know. This map is a Player Destruction map. In all essence, each player has a steamed ham inside of them, and you have to collect as many as you can and deliver them to the blue house that's on fire.

It's a meme, it doesn't have to make sense. Still, come join us and bear witness to this.

So come join us as we push carts and catch some rays!

General Discussion / Re: And after so long...
« Last post by Valoon on January 28, 2018, 11:16:33 PM »
I have about 4,300 hours on the game and still play regularly.   I've actually been thinking a lot lately as to why I still play this game, or rather why I still haven't stopped playing after sevenish years.  When I first started playing heavily back in 2012 (although I started playing in 2011),  the main thing that drove me for the first ~200 hours to keep playing was how new and interesting the game was.  I could play solely on 2fort for hours and not get bored.  However, I don't think that the game's mechanics themselves warrant how much time I've put in this game, because after about 800 hours of playing you should know the ins and outs of every weapon and know most of the maps, and there really isn't anything new left to experience after 1,000 hours in-game.  To be honest, what kept me hooked after around 500 hours was two things:  the people I had met through the game and the thought of getting better at the game.  When I came to TF2, I really wasn't in the best place in life, and the connections I made in it were what kept me going, and having something of a hobby gave me something to come home to and unwind with.

But now, seven years later I am in a completely different place in life and in the game.  Nothing in the game is new for me to enjoy.  Many of the communities/teams I've joined, while they hold a place somewhere in my heart, aren't nearly as important to my every day life as they were when I started playing, and at this point I have hit a level of proficiency in the game that I am comfortable with.  Every reason I used to play this game is mostly gone, and when I think about it, the only reason I can come up with for why I still play this game is that when my interest in the communities/getting better/exploring the mechanics started to wane, the pride I felt from how far I've come in the game replaced those things.  I honestly think that this happens with every hobby/activity you might participate in, it's simply natural to get kind of bored just because there's nothing new there for you to learn or get better at, and from there pride takes its place.  Whether you stick with it or not depends on how long that pride can stay strong.  For me, personally, I think that pride is starting to drop off, and as soon as something new for me to latch on to comes along, TF2 will probably no longer be something I play outside of the occasional boot up.

All that said, I'll always love TF2.  It'll always be up there in my favorite games and I will always think of it highly.
